FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What is pelvic floor physical therapy?
Men and women have a group of muscles called the pelvic floor muscles inside their vagina and rectum.
These muscles are responsible for:
- controlling the bowel and bladder “preventing an accident”,
- supporting the internal pelvic organs “keeping everything up”,
- enhancing the sexual experience, and
- providing stability at your pelvis as part of your “core” muscle group.
What to expect on the first visit?
Your physical therapist will sit with you and discuss what brought you to physical therapy. She will complete a thorough evaluation of your pelvis, hips, spine, and abdominal wall and an internal pelvic examination specifically assessing the pelvic floor muscles PFM. All patients are different, and your evaluation and treatment will be modified to your comfort level. During the evaluation and additional physical therapy sessions, you are always encouraged to speak with the physical therapist about your concerns and needs. We believe your recovery is a team effort, and open communication is encouraged from day one.
Do you take insurance?
Our physical therapy practice is designed as private pay/out-of-network, and payment is received at the time of service. This setup allows us to spend more time with you, the patient. If you have out-of-network physical therapy benefits, we will provide you with “a superbill” outlining your diagnosis and treatments to submit to your insurance. We accept Health Savings Account HSA cards in addition to cash, debit, and credit cards for payment of physical therapy provided at The Right Balance.
What are the costs associated?
We are a concierge patient-centered physical therapy practice specializing in the spine and pelvis. You will be seen individually throughout your session; each session is designed specifically for your symptoms and goals. You will reach your goals faster with this treatment model, and your physical therapist will continually assess your response within each session. As a result, most patients find more value in their sessions and spend less money compared to other physical therapy practices. The first session will be a thorough 75-minute evaluation for $250. The additional sessions are $205, and treatment sessions are 50 minutes long.
Do I need a referral for physical therapy?
Florida law states you may see a physical therapist for 30 days for physical therapy without a prescription from a physician. Your physical therapist may recommend you follow up with a physician depending on your symptoms or duration of treatment, which will be determined during your initial sessions.
